On 19.09.2024, another successful edition of the “Life Sciences in the Rhineland” event series took place at BioCampus Cologne. The more than 60 participants were offered a highly interesting and varied program.
Leading experts from medicine and life sciences focused on a topic that is now omnipresent — artificial intelligence.


At the beginning, the numerous guests were cordially welcomed by the organizers LifeScienceNet Düsseldorf, BioRiver and BioCologne greets. Bettina Möckel (QIAGEN), André van Hall and Thomas Heck emphasized the good cooperation between the networks in the Rhineland. Martin Kretschmer from CologneBusiness Economic Development moderated the evening confidently & charmingly.

The highly interesting presentations by the keynote speakers illustrated how artificial intelligence as a key technology opens up new horizons in medicine and life sciences. Whether developing personalized medicines and patient care, simulating clinical trials, or analyzing large amounts of data, AI has the potential to revolutionize healthcare:

  • Dario Antweiler, Head of Healthcare Analytics at Fraunhofer IAIS, gave a convincing presentation on AI applications in healthcare, medicine and life sciences
  • Dr. Vinay Suryaprakash Director of Data Science & Digital Business Solutions of QIAGEN presented the healthcare sector of the 21st century: AI ambitions using post-market surveillance as an example
  • Dr. Patrick Günther, Ph.D. Günther, CEO and Founder, aimedanalytics GmbH impressively presented how individual patient care can be implemented using AI and big data.

A particular highlight was the presentation of the EY German Biotechnology Report 2024 by Andreas Weigel. Despite all global challenges, there is a positive development in this sector. We owe this highlight to the significant support of Dr. Frauke Hangen from BioRiver.

It was a great event with inspiring presentations, exciting insights into the present and positive prospects for the future gave. Particularly noteworthy were the intensive Interactions between participants and keynote speakers. During the subsequent get-together and networking in the lobby of the high-rise building, the discussions were further deepened.
